    Your first destination is a magnificent building. It was intended to be the second largest Baroque palace in Europe. The purpose was to highlight the important role of the Palatine Prince Electors in the Holy Roman Empire. The Palace was built in 1720 by Prince Elector Carl Philipp.
    It comprises five wings, with the severity of the long three-story facades broken up by four story pavilions. Until 1777, it was the main residence of the Prince-electors of the Electorate of the Palatinate of the House of Wittelsbach.
    Today the Palace gives place to over 800 exhibits which brings the historic royal magnificence to life.

    After a short walk you arrive to the central square in Mannheim. Its name comes from the historical fact that it was used for troop marches in the times of the Electors. In the 18th century the square got another name called Alarmplatz.
    The plans for the construction of the square presented as early as 1717, but only completed in 1893. During its history the square was reconstructed several times. Finally in the 1980s, it was restored to its historical condition of 1895.
    In the middle of the square stands a bronze-&-stone fountain called the Grupello Pyramid. It was erected in 1743. The beautiful fountain was created by Gabriel Grupello for Elector Johann Wilhelm.
    Walk around the square and admire the fountain. Sit down and enjoy the greenery and of course don’t forget to take photos.

    Your next visit is the most popular landmark in Mannheim. It stands on the Frederick Square and is one of the most beautiful Art Nouveau sites in Europe. The tower was built between 1886 and 1889 by Gustav Halmhuber. The tower is 60 meters high and 19 meters in diameter and was the first urban water tower of Mannheim. Check out its fountains, promenades and arcades giving you a Mediterranean feeling.
