The Magnificent Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park

You will start the day by visiting the beautiful Natural Park of Vosges du Nord. Located in a triangle between Wissembourg, Sarreguemines and plunging towards Saverne, enjoy the ocean of forest. Mainly made of beeches, oaks, Scots pines, the forest is magnificient.

Next to the restaurant, there is the parking lot of the Haunaut pond. Leave your car and prepare yourself to walk around 6km in the forest. Discover the natural and historical wonders of the Pays de Bitche: peat bogs and their ecological richness, sandstone walls, perched and semi-troglodyte fortified castles, ancient frontiers are on the menu.
The hike to follow is tagged by the green rings. Walk through the forest of the bog to reach the hamlet of Waldeck, which was originally a smallholding built below the castle of Waldeck.

Waldeck castle was built in the 13th century by the Duke of Lorraine. In the 14th century, it was a major place within the forestry, agricultural and fishing industry. The castle fell into disrepair to then get destroyed by Marshal de la Force's troops during the Thirty Years' War.
Visit the ruins of the troglodyte castle and enjoy the beautiful points of view in height.
Enjoy the peaceful hike heading towards our next stop, the Erbsenfelsen rock and arch.

Keep following the green rings and make slowly your way back to Hanau pond where your car is parked.

The Inn of the Lake is a perfect spot to take a well-deserved break and have some amazing food. The setting is magnificent nestled next to the Hasselfurth pond.
The menu is full of local specialties and they offer delicious daily suggestions. Enjoy a nice meal on the beautiful terrace.

Imposing 17th century citadel with a chapel and a museum dedicated to the Franco-Prussian war of 1870. Get immersed in the history of the war of 1870 and the place watching a realistic movie. Walk around the site and enjoy the breathtaking view on top of the ramparts.
The citadel is open daily. But it's better to visit the website to see the opening hours since it's different during the seasons.
After the visit, you will head towards Ergensheim where you will spend the evening and the night. On your way, do not miss the stunning view point from Warthenberg castle.
