Brauweiler Abbey is a former abbey. It is now a part of the city and lies within its limits. The abbey was founded in 1135 by Bernard of Clairvaux and remained in operation until 1802, when it was secularized.
The buildings are now used for various purposes, including as a brewery and a retirement home.

Schloss Paffendorf is situated on a hill above the village, overlooking the valley of the River Sieg. It was built in the 13th century as a hunting lodge for the Counts of Berg and served as their main residence until the 16th century.
The castle was badly damaged in the Thirty Years' War and was subsequently restored. Today, it is open to the public as a museum.

Merode Castle was first built in the 12th century and was expanded over the centuries. It was partially destroyed in 1632 during the Thirty Years' War and again in 1703 during the War of the Spanish Succession.
In 1794, it was set on fire by French troops and has been in ruins ever since. Despite its historic state, Merode Castle is still a popular tourist destination.
