Skirting the North Coast of Snæfellsnes

It is not very common to find in Iceland -in my opinion- places with exceptional coffee. That does not mean that there are not good ones. What is striking is to find a coffee shop that roasts its own coffee made in Colombia and is located in such a remote village.
Valeria is named after the granddaughter of the owners, who are passionate about a coffee that travels from the plantation in Colombia to your cup in this little corner of Iceland. Their love and passion for this product has made them work with small Colombian producers with whom they deal directly to support sustainable trade.
The list of preparations is extensive: Espresso, Espresso Macchiato, Long Black, Latte, Cappuccino, Mocha, Babyccino, Cold Brew, Iced Latte, Affogato... and so on. Not only can you have the first coffee of the day, but you can also take a packet of good coffee home with you.

In the Vesturland region, this coastal town stands out among other communities with its pretty fishing port. It is the largest town on the peninsula. The best time to do this excursion is during the months of April and October and usually lasts between 2 and 3 hours and a half. Important: if you tend to get seasick, buy anti-seasickness pills at the pharmacy and take them at least half an hour before setting sail.

In other parts of the world, churches, temples, chapels or monasteries are a reference in their cities, towns or communities. The Lutheran church of Ólafsvík, consecrated on November 19, 1967, replaced the original church dating from 1892.
Unlike the more traditional churches that you may have seen in other areas of the country, this one has a geometric and modern design where triangles prevail. Take a walk around its surroundings and, if you are lucky enough to find it open, visit its interior.

Who could know the complete history and vicissitudes of this stranded and abandoned ship! Who was its captain? What happened to run aground on this beach near Rif? Also those of many others scattered all over the world.
You can take photos of both the exterior and the interior by climbing aboard the ship. It still retains many of the navigation instruments in the cockpit. Remember that it is a ship in the process of deterioration so be cautious if you go on board as some parts may come off.

Solitary and charming beach very close to Grundarfjorður. To access it you will find a fence with a giant padlock - hence the name of this point of interest. You can go down with the help of a rope or the track that follows behind the fence and stretch your legs for a while.

Public swimming pools in Iceland are one of the secrets to be discovered by most travelers. Many end up going to tourist thermal spas -that does not mean that they are ugly, on the contrary, but very expensive- and they do not know that in these spaces they can relax at unbeatable prices.
The swimming pool of Grundarfjorður has two jacuzzis with a temperature between 38-40º, a common swimming pool and another one for children.

Today I propose two options: dining at Harbour Cafe or cooking at the accommodation. If your option is the first one, in this restaurant you have a short but varied menu with a strong Icelandic accent with dishes such as baked cod with potato and mozzarella, pizzas or salads to end a memorable day.

Nothing like coming "home" after a long and intense day of road trip. If you still feel like taking a walk, I recommend you to do it following the coastline along the sea.

Remember to buy something for breakfast as well.
