A Relaxing Wander Around Poznan

First of all, drive to this parking lot, and park your car up here. From this spot, you will be able to enjoy central Poznan by foot. When you're finished with the Rogalowe Muzeum, go back to the parking lot and continue the rest of the journey by car.

First of all it's time to make your way to Poznan's enthralling city square. Even if you didn't go into a single shop, restaurant or café, it would still be worth visiting this place, with its splendid architecture dating back to renaissance Europe.

These picture-book rows of technicolour townhouses are an incredible example of the beauty of traditional Polish architecture and are a sight for sore eyes. These were originally called 'herring shops' and were the homes to merchants, selling local produce. There are places to buy souvenirs, have a coffee or a small bite to eat.

We also recommend the Museum of Musical Instruments, a quirky and fascinating museum featuring ancient and contemporary instruments that can be found within walking distance from the Old Market Square (see open times below). Enjoy this cultural high point of Poznan, before making your way to its town hall.

This is known as the most important landmark in Poznan and for a reason. This renaissance-style building dates back to the 14th century and has captivated everyone I have brought to this spot. In particular, look closely at the intricate paintings on the side and the glorious fountain in the middle. At 12:00 make sure you stay to see a truly wonderful show that takes place each day and blew me away. I'm not going to go into detail as it should remain a surprise, but it involves goats and is truly a sight to behold!

If there's any restaurant that shows off the delights of Poznan cuisine, then this is it. Stylish interior, pleasant staff and a delicious assortment of meals means that the Mollini should be on every visitor to Poznan's list. The pizza is good, but the seafood is truly spectacular. I recommend the shrimp, fish soup and carbonara above all else.

This museum translated to English is 'croissant museum', and as the name suggests it is original, quirky and very entertaining. Like no museum I've ever been to, the Rogalowe Muzeum is a must-see. The presenters can speak in English and are extremely welcoming and funny.
Open croissant shows are held at 14:00 in English each day, which are a great opportunity to enjoy an interactive presentation, learning about this delightful topic in English. This light-hearted museum will educate and entertain as you learn about the difference between the Poznan croissant and all others, as well as receive a great 'taste' of Poznan culture.

Now it's time to start leaving Poznan, but just ten minutes out of the city center there is one of the most beautiful parts of the city that would be a great shame to miss. Take a relaxing stroll in a gorgeous setting, seeing the wonderful stained-glass windows and amazing crypts of the first rulers of Poland. The information was all in Polish when I was there, however I've seen that recently it has been translated into English.

Now it's time for the drive to the next location, but an hour and a half in you will start to get hungry and fatigued. So drop by the charming town of Bydgoszcz for a bite to eat and a chance to replenish along the way. This is an interesting mixture of Polish and American culture, as the restaurant is essentially a US steakhouse but done in Polish style. Delicious rib-eyes cooked to perfection make up the menu, with many vegetarian options available too.

As you're making this long journey, you may need to stretch your legs and this area is a perfect place to do so. With a beautiful lake surrounded by fields, take the time to park your car and take in its stunning tranquility. Take a short break in your travels here, before you continue your journey to the final part of our destination.

After a long drive, you will arrive at the Masurian Lake District for the final part of your trip. This place to stay is a fantastic way to start, as this is no normal camping. You're 'glamping', in a high-end experience, right next to a beautiful lake. The tents are luxurious, comfortable and offer a wonderfully relaxing experience. In the morning, I fully recommend a dip in the lake to replenish and refresh yourself for the next day!
