Cross barely into Kansas and the next stop - the star of Kansas City - Joe's Kansas City Bar-b-que. This award winning barbeque is known throughout Missouri if not the entire United States as some of the THE best barbeque in the country. Ribs, pulled pork, smoked turkey, brisket - take your pick - it's all delicious and a little life changing. They even have a couple of vegetarian options.

The Missouri River is the longest river in the United States and was used to move cargo and products from the Midwest to the west. Most of that was done by steamboat.

After learning about steamboats it's only right that you take a gander at the river from the Missouri River Viewing Deck and adjacent Riverfront West Park. This is the best vantage point in Kansas City to see it.

Time for a break and freshen up. The Courtyard by Marriott in downtown KC is the ideal hotel for your overnight. Wind down and take a well-deserved rest. The remainder of the evening is walkable, so you can leave the keys behind.

Downtown Kansas City is very walkable. Leave your car at the hotel and walk two blocks for a pre-dinner cocktail - or mocktail - at Tom's Town Distilling.
Named after the country's most corrupt political boss and saloon owner, Tom Pendergast. Tom's Town is a homage to Kansas City's Prohibition Days when the city ignored Prohibition laws and continued to serve alcohol.
Known as the "Paris of the Plains", even to this day Kansas City lives up to that free thinking reputation and a visit to Tom's Town to sip on gin, vodka, or bourbon is a must.
