Castle Hopping Along the North East Coast

The ruins of this strategically placed 13th-century fortress were built in the 13th century. What remains are the results of modifications and reparations dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. It hangs so close to the coastal cliffs that at one point in the 16th century the entire kitchen fell into the sea and the building was abandoned.
It's a very picturesque and romantic place used for movies and featured on Led Zeppelin's "Houses of the Holy" album. There are also historical and archaeological artifacts on display. Enjoy the fantastic views and take a step back in time as you walk these rustic ruins. There is no need to book tickets in advance.

Continuing along the coast, you'll find this wonderful wildlife reserve with a beach you can walk on for miles. The dunes behind the beach are especially picturesque with cliffs, mountains, and even a waterfall. It's calm, peaceful, and serene, so enjoy a walk along the Irish coastline and take in all its beauty.
Parking is available at the Benone Tourist Center just down the road or at the reserve itself. It is recommended to contact the Ulster Wildlife Trust before visiting.

Opened in 1992 and winner of numerous awards, this tower located inside the city walls hoses two main permanent exhibits. Featured is the history of Londonderry from prehistoric times to the present and artifacts recovered from a Spanish Armada shipwreck. It also hosts a variety of guest exhibits throughout the year. At the top is an open-air terrace that provides wonderful views of the city and river. There are loads of Irish history just waiting to be discovered here.

Construction of this beautiful place began in 1784 by a dedicated Catholic priest who was buried beneath it. It originally had a natural earth floor and was estimated to hold 2,000 standing people. Renovated and improved over centuries, there is a real sense of rich history here with an abundance of historical and religious artifacts on display. The stunning stained-glass windows along with the sounds of the organ playing as you approach the marble communion rail is humbling and powerful. A very pretty place with great things to see. A definite "must-see" in Londonderry.
