Storks & Flowers, A Day Dedicated to Nature.

Let's take a walk through this little Borgo, where we find another castle (in case you haven't had enough) Chateau Dei Seyssel D'aix.
But how many of these castles are there? So many, because this is a land of vineyards, the "Seigneurs" in times past used to bring their residence here to these lands.
Another peculiarity of Sommaria del bosco is its no less than eleven churches.

Moving away from the Langhe, the landscape begins to change. But not completely.
And because you've enjoyed nature these days, we dive into marshes and ducks.
We go to the Stork Center in Racconigi. At this center you can learn all about storks and anatids in general: where they come from, how they move, how they feed, their importance to the eco-system.

The long hike inside the stork park, makes one hungry.
We take advantage of a lunch with seasonal products, so we choose this trattoria, not too far away, and offering excellent dishes.

We end on a high note with The Castle of Pralormo, now infamous for the "Messer Tulip" event it hosts every year in privamera.
Expanses of tulips cover the lawns inside the Castle.
We fill up before heading home.
Every Sunday it is open for public tours. The month of August is closed for summer break; alternatively, you can visit the church of San Donato or the 13th-century Bell Tower, both just 200m away.

After visiting the castle we stop for coffee or ice cream, or for those who are still hungry, a snack. This is a small as well as traditional café. Its highlight nice omelet sandwich!

When one thinks of buffalo mozzarella, one's mind runs more to southern Italy although even in Piedmont there is a small herd with 280 buffalo that produce as many as 13 types of cheeses both fresh and aged and yogurt. You cannot escape an excellent mozzarella.
The dairy is open Tuesday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Here the official website.

Before heading back to town and after stocking up on cheeses, we can't help but end our tour of the Langhe with a visit to the Conviviale wine shop, where we can have one last toast and choose a few bottles to take home.
It is closed on Sundays, open on Mondays from 6 to 10 p.m., other days also from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for lunch.
