Medieval Villages, UNESCO Museum and Stunning Waterfall

Today is the final day of the route, let's head to Bergheim, a picturesque village on the Alsatian wine route.
Park your car and explore the beautiful city by foot.
Surrounded by ramparts, the town has many gorgeous winegrowers' houses. The wall consists of a well-preserved double enclosure, with its ditches and towers. Some of them have been transformed into dwellings. From the top of this point, you can admire the vineyard overlooked by the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle.
Walk along the ramparts heading to the entrance to the town, next to the church.

The current church was built in the 14th century after the previous one burned down. Over time, several modifications were made, especially on the upper part of the bell tower and the interior.
Pay attention to the entrance portal, presents a beautiful adoration of the Magi. Inside, you can admire several beautiful frescoes (symbols of the Evangelists, Saint George slaying the dragon, a crucifixion…)
The nave was covered with a ceiling and the arches rest on Tuscan columns.
Take a stroll along the city center and enjoy the small street with typical Alsatian houses to end in the Market Square.

Bergheim is surrounded by incredible vineyards. Pride of the winegrowers of Bergheim, the area has been known and renowned for its great wines since the 12th century. The local wines offer a perfect harmony, mixing a powerful and virile body. The fine and subtle aromatic expression, distinguishes those grands' crus from gastronomic wines.
Let's explore more about its wine attributes. House Gustave Lorentz welcomes you in their tasting cellar where you will learn more about their vineyards and have the chance to taste the best of their grand-crus wines.

Get back to the car and let's head to our next stop, Selenat.

Park your car near the restaurant, it is time for a well-deserved lunch break. Chez Youpel serves authentic Alsatian food. Taste some local dishes made out of local products. The restaurant offers a beautiful terrace in a charming and “casual” atmosphere!

The humanist Library of Sélestat is a must-see while visiting Alsace. Discover all about the treasures of the Renaissance and the secrets of exceptional works. The museum is classified as UNESCO Memory of the World Register.
The visit is an invitation to delve back in time through medieval manuscripts and 15th and 16th century printed matter. The building itself is stunning. It is the work of the well-known architect Rudy Ricciotti.

After the visit, get back to the car and let's head to the next adventure of the route, the magnificent Hohwald waterfall.

Leave your car at this parking lot and start heading towards the waterfall by foot. Enjoy the short walk through the forest (500m), relax and take some picture of the stunning nature.

The Hohwald waterfall is a fascinating natural site that changes coat at the rythm of the seasons. Between green lush and singing bird to white coat taking over in the winter, let yourself be enchanted by the magic of the place.

It is time to head back to the car and to continue the journey back home. You will have a last stop to enjoy the best of Alsatian food in Obernai one more time.
