Spain is a country that has a very vivid and rich multicultural history. This pristine route in Southern Spain’s Andalusian region will take you to three beautiful cities with significant Islamic heritage. From the early 8th until the late 15th centuries, the Moors ruled parts of Andalucia. The Umayyads arrived from Damascus after the Iberian invasion by Tariq in 711, they then settled in Córdoba and established their capital. Towards the end of the 11th century, the Almoravids came to Al-Andalus from Northern Africa, and the Almohads followed suit shortly after. During the 13th century, the Nasrids began their 250-year reign in Granada.
After the Christians finally recaptured the kingdom of Granada at the end of the 15th century, the last Nasrid ruler, Boabdil, was briefly exiled to the Alpujarras before they finally left Al-Andalús for Fez in Morocco. During their rule in Al-Andalus, the Moors, the emirs, scholars, and architects built elaborate castles, fortress and mosques and so much more. You'll begin your route out of Murcia to visit an old castle set atop a hill, that overlooks a rustic old pueblo-blanco. The journey unravels into a beautiful route to Granada to visit The Red One the Alhambra in the stunning city of Granada, popularly known for medieval Moorish architecture. The second city, Córdoba, is where you'll get to experience the essence of one of the world's most beautiful mosques. The Mosque-Cathedral, which is a famous monument for both Islamic and Christian religions.
Finally, you will get to explore the city of Seville, home to the Royal Alcázar of Seville, along with several other notable historic landmarks which you'll get to explore. This ancient city leaves its visitors in awe with the mixture of Moor, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architectural designs dotted across the city. This trip will most definitely leave a great impression on you and hopefully, give you more of an understanding of how the Moors lived many years ago.
