I invite you on a journey along the Danube Bend, which is a historically significant region in Hungary. During this four-day trip, we will explore beautiful cities and towns on both sides of the Danube. We begin our journey in a small village called Zsámbék, then we explore the city where the first King of Hungary was crowned, called Esztergom. Next, we spend our day in Visegrád and finally, we complete our journey by discovering Vác and Szentendre.
We will immerse ourselves in the history and culture of Hungary by exploring historical buildings and places such as castles, ruins, churches, chapels, calvaries and statues. By visiting various interesting museums, you can get a glimpse of the past life of Hungarian people. There are also some unique tourist attractions which you will check out. During the trip, you taste delicious traditional foods and drinks.

Day 1

Discover the Hungarian Village Zsámbék
We spend our first day in Zsámbék which is a small village at the base of the ridge of Mount Nyakas. We begin our day visiting the oldest residential building where we'll gain an insight into the life of people back in the old times. Following our plan, our next visit brings us to a unique museum which exhibits a wide collection of lamps. It was founded by Francis Borus, and it offers an incredible experience.
Not too far from the museum, we discover the most beautiful monument of medieval Hungarian architecture, called the Ruined Church of Zsámbék. Next, we take a break and have a delicious lunch in the Lámpás Étterem. After our lunch, we go for a walking tour on the Nyakas mountain where we'll enjoy the beautiful landscape. Finally, we travel to Esztergom where we taste some Hungarian specialities accompanied by wine from the local winery.

Welcome to the Beautiful City Esztergom
Since Roman times, Esztergom was popular amongst tradespeople who travelled between Eastern and Central Europe. Its importance made it self-evident that the princely tribe of the conquering Hungarians claimed to it. The royal city was the place where St Stephen, the first King of Hungary, was crowned at the start of the 11th century. It also became the seat of the Archdiocese of Esztergom-Budapest.
Today we explore this beautiful city. We'll begin at St Stephen Square, then will visit the Dark Gate. By continuing our journey, we'll stop at the Chapel of St Thomas Becket and on the second part of the day, we'll discover the city’s major historical buildings such as the Castle and the Basilica. Finally, we'll see the St Stephen Coronation statue.

Let’s Meet Visegrád
Welcome to our third day of the trip. We'll begin our day by visiting the small castle town called Visegrád. It lies on the right bank of the Danube in the Danube Bend. Before our first destination, we'll stop to admire the incredible view of the Danube, the city and the surrounding hills. Continuing our journey, we'll explore a beautiful chapel with stations that were created by the sculptor Ernő Szakál.
Next, we'll discover the Royal Palace, its museum and tower, which once was occupied by several Hungarian kings. After we have our tasty lunch, we'll continue our exploration of the Citadel, which is also a part of the Royal Palace. Then, our journey will bring us into nature, where we'll climb to the Zsitvay viewpoint. Here, we'll immerse ourselves in the beauty of nature and enjoy the picturesque panorama.
As we continue our drive, we'll stop for a delicious dinner. Finally, by crossing the river Danube, we'll arrive at our hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening.

Immerse Yourself in the Beauty of Szentendre
We spent the first part of the tour in Vác which was well known as the city of culture. It was located on the left bank of the Danube. Our first destination was a former Dominican church which was situated on the main square of the city. Next, we admired a unique historical building called Triumphal Arch of Vác which was built for the reception of Maria. By continuing our journey within Vác, our next point was the round castle like Calvary.
During the second part of our day, we explored Szentendre which was also situated at the bank of the Danube. First, we visited Szentendre’s one of the most popular museums which featured a collection of Margaret Kovács's work with various exciting exhibitions. Then, we discovered one of the largest open-air museums which featured the Hungarian village life. Finally, we visited two churches. The first was called Blagovestenska which was located in the main square of the city and featured Baroque and Rococo elements. The second was the Baroque and Gothic Saint John the Baptist church, which was the oldest building in the city. We also took a walk in the historical centre of the city as well as visited a unique tourist attraction too. During the day, we had an opportunity to taste delicious Hungarian food and drinks.
