- Swim in the same spring water pool that Cleopatra once bathed in.
- Visit Pamukkale’s snow-white travertine terraces.
- See archaeology ‘in action’ at ancient Laodicea.
- Eat a ‘stretchy’ ice cream in the sun.
- Dine on fresh fish on the shores of the Turkish Maldives.
This 3-day trip from Antalya visits the interior of the region and includes the world-famous travertine pools at Pamukkale as well as some less-known (but just as cool) sights. There are a couple of fantastic caves to be explored (including Kaklik which is like a miniature underground Pamukkale), as well as a lake, nicknamed the Turkish Maldives because of its white sand beach.
For the history geeks, there’s a visit to the ancient city of Laodicea to check out the ongoing excavation and restoration and to the ruins of Hierapolis with its amazing amphitheatre and necropolis. There’s also a cable car ride into the mountains above Denizli and a visit to the lavender fields around Karamanli.
There are also some amazing Turkish dishes to eat along the way. You’ll try the famous Denizli kebab (which is nothing like a ‘european’ kebab), borek (deep-fried stuffed pastries – a bit like spring rolls), gozleme (another stuffed pastry; this one is pan-fried or baked) and my favourite – the tasty pide (Türkiye’s interpretation of a pizza).

A Day in Ancient Hierapolis
Today is all about the ancient city of Hierapolis, a very wealthy spa town that was built by the Greeks in 190BC as a curative centre for a whole range of ailments. During your visit today you’ll explore Hierapolis’ most famous sights including its incredible amphitheatre as well as walk through the wonderful travertine pools and take a swim in Cleopatra’s pool.
