If you are here on 1st May, you must stop for a while by the village of Jachenau situated just a few minutes from the lake. Every year, many men in national dress erect a decorated tree by hand, and the ladies bring them beer during the process of installing the tree. A very vibrant tradition. It's really worth experiencing.

Park your car in the designated paid parking area, conveniently located for easy access to the cable car. The Herzogstand Cable Car transports you directly to the mountain top in less than 10 minutes.
You also have the option to ascend and descend on foot. The hike is relatively easy: the ascent will take about 2 hours, and the descent about 1 hour.

Just at the beginning of the ascent on the cable car, unique views of the panorama of the two-lake region open up in front of you. From the top of Herzogstand, the beloved mountain of King Ludwig II, you can see Bavaria stretching all the way to Munich and Lake Walchensee itself, which reflects the sun's rays in its waters like a polished emerald.
To the north, you have a splendid panoramic view of the Bavarian foothills of the Alps across Lake Kochel and Walchensee, as well as the peaks of Zugspitze and Karwendel and the distant Tyrolean mountains.
After enjoying a walk, make your way back down and pick up the car from the car park to go on further adventures.

After driving through the forests and meadows, stop by the picturesque town of Bad Tölz amidst the Bavarian Alps, renowned for its medieval architecture.
