To the Capital through Our History and the Coziness of Small Town

Today you will have a long drive to Washington DC, so try to get out early to catch a few of the attractions along the route.

Probably, we will never know which object was the target of the terrorists who hijacked the fourth plane on September 11, 2001. According to one version, they wanted to destroy the Capitol. But thanks to the courage of 40 passengers on Flight 93, the terrorists were neutralized. Unfortunately for the heroes, that flight ended tragically, and the plane crashed into a field 240 kilometers from Washington DC.
We will not know how many lives the passengers on Flight 93 saved on that horrible day. The memory of the people who sacrificed their lives is immortalized in this monument.

Bedford Village is for those who want to enjoy a place where time has stood still for two centuries. Preserved houses and artisan workshops (as they were 200 years ago), as well as the people working in this museum, will help you to relive the past. It's a very informative and interesting excursion.

By the way, the road to Old Bedford Village goes through one more covered bridge. It is at least the fourth on your route.

It is one of nearly 200 well-preserved Historic Covered Bridges in Pennsylvania. You can walk or even drive through this nearly 150-year-old bridge. Just don't go over 5 mph. It may be dangerous.

Hagerstown was founded in 1762 by the German immigrant Jonathan Hager. The city still preserves German traditions. After lunch, you will have the opportunity to stroll through the streets where many of the old houses have been well-preserved. Until then, enjoy authentic German cuisine at this Bavarian restaurant.
The restaurant is closed on Monday and Tuesday. So, you can have lunch at the nearby Bulls and Bears restaurant if you travel on these days.

After lunch, you will have the opportunity to visit Jonathan Hager House Museum. Here you will see the well-preserved furniture and everyday life at a house of a wealthy landowner from the 18th century.
The Hager Museum is open on Fridays and Saturdays until 4 pm.

Another option to spend time after your lunch is the Miller Museum. It is a large, luxurious furnished colonial house. The Miller Museum is a true treasure for history buffs. Experienced staff will tell you in detail about the exhibits of the collection.
Most likely you will have time to visit only one of these two museums. I am sure that you will be satisfied with any choice.
The museum is open from 9 am to 4:30 pm. It is closed on Sunday and Monday.

Your way continues on South Prospect Street to City Park. Here you can walk along park paths, view garden sculptures, feed ducks and swans on Lower Lake. The Art Museum is already closed, but graceful statues are clearly visible in its panoramic windows.
Return to where you left your car on South Potomac Street or Summit Avenue. Both of these streets are also full of charming colorful houses that will be eye candy for you.

Leaving Hagerstown, make a short stop in front of this building. It looks like an old castle. Take some photos of this impregnable castle and continue your travel to Washington DC.
