Coastal Route From Harmony to Los Angeles

As you start your drive towards the coast on California 46, you'll go past a few wineries, including Rotta Winery, a true gem. Tiny but mighty, this vineyard is producing wines using a dry farm method—that's right, without watering. The wines are superb. Stay for a tasting or stock up on some bottles. Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are highly encouraged.

This is a teeny hamlet of Harmony, population 18. For such a small town, this former dairy farm has a lot going on: Harmony Pottery Studio and Gallery, Harmony Glassworks, cow sculptures and food truck offerings. Stay for a minute or stay for an hour, there is plenty here to explore.

You are in for a treat! Cold Springs Tavern is a rustic, country tavern on the San Marcos Pass serving home cooked meals and Santa Maria-style BBQ. This former stagecoach stop is known for their tri-tip sandwiches, chilis, steaks and fish. Enjoy what is sure to become a memorable meal.

It's time for a water view. Head to Santa Barbara's Stearn's Wharf to the Deep Sea Tasting Room, a unique dock-side retreat with beautiful views of the Santa Barbara shoreline and a great selection of wines. This is a great time to explore the small shops of the wharf and take a stroll on the beach. If you are up for a longer walk, the heart of Santa Barbara's retail district is a 10 to 15 minute walk straight up State Street, just off the wharf.

Love a New York-style deli? Brent's Deli is your place. This Westlake institution serves up all the classics—mile-high sandwiches, black & white cookies, liver and onions, and matzo ball soup. If you want a further drive and it works for your Los Angeles destination, you can also try the Northridge location in the San Fernando Valley.
