Good Morning. I hope you had a good rest, as today there are a lot of exciting places waiting for you. Let’s begin the morning with a delicious breakfast in the hotel. My first program is a cave tour in Aggtelek which is a bit of a drive, so let’s hit the road.
While I was driving, I decided to take a break. So I stopped at the park which contained a beautiful viewpoint. It is situated in the valley of Sajó. It was open in 2020 and the building can be visited both day and night.
The 15-meter-high viewpoint contains 4 floors and a part of the city can be seen from each floor. When I reached the top, a 180-degree panorama welcomes me.

Baradla Aggtelek Cave (Entrance)

Finally, I am here at the foot of this hill which hides a unique gem inside.
The Baradla cave was formed in Triassic limestone 200-230 million years ago. Previously, the name Aggteleki cave was used. The word was often supplemented with the term stalactite, and then it appeared as Aggteleki stalactite cave. Today we use its full name Baradla-Domica cave system which comes from the Baradla cave situated in Hungary and the Domica Cave, which extends into Slovakia.
The total excavated length of the Baradla-Domica cave system exceeds 30 kilometres, in which 3 different limestone formations have formed over time. The oldest, Gutenstein Limestone with its dark grey-black colour can be found in the Jósvafő section of the cave, from the entrance to the hall of the Giants. The main branch, which is rich in Steinalm Limestone, is light grey and well suited for stalactite formation. Here, I can also observe fossils such as green algae, ammonites, and sea lilies In the rock. From the Vaskapu to the Aggtelek exits, the relatively clean limestone Wetterstein Limestone is visible. The shallow lagoons contain the remains of green algae, snails and ammonites.
During the tour I explore a world that caveman already discovered for himself a few thousand years ago. The rocks all keep the memories of our ancestors through a lot of black colour and soot formations. The path that leads between huge halls, with a multitude of formations such as hanging stalactites, stalactite columns, and stalactite flags, stirred my imagination.

The Baroque Platthy Castle was built in a wonderful natural environment in 1752. It is surrounded by a beautiful English Park. Above the entrance can be seen the family's inverted coat of arms, which is a stag star. Below it is an inscription that can be seen. It says „EMER PLATTYH.DE N. PALUGYAI DIVÉK ANNA DE SZIRMA EREXERUNT 1752.” Which means "It was built in 1752 by Imre Platthy and Anna Szirmai from the Palugya family."
As I walk inside, the atmosphere of the castle evokes long-gone historical times. The building boasts baroque-style furnishings as well as an arcaded inner courtyard.
Finally, I am sitting in the restaurant where I am waiting for my order. Today I try another delicious dish which reflects the Hungarian taste. Note: The building can be visited with a guided tour, where you can learn about the historical significance of the castle. For guided tours, registration is required at our contact details!

Train station Fatelep
Open Details
And yes, you are right. I continue my trip by train. The small train departs from the Fatelep station, which can be found at the entrance to the Szalajka Valley. The steam-powered forest railway started operating in 1908 and it was mainly used to transport timber and limestone. From 1966, steam locomotives were replaced by diesel locomotives. In 1999, the Szilvi steam locomotive was put on the market together with a contemporary railway saloon car. Today, the train is used for tourism.
We begin our journey and travel through Bükk’s beautiful landscape. After a 16 minutes journey, I am at the terminus called the Gloriett-glade. Here, I take some time to walk around and visit the Szalajka-Fátyol-waterfall. Then, the train is ready to start off. On the way back we stopped at the Szalajka Fish Lake. Here, I am able to walk around and admire the beauty of nature. I went back to the train and continued on my way. Finally arrived at the starting point.
This journey was not only incredible but gave me a unique experience.
Timetable can be found here.

Miskolctapolca Cave Bath
Spa
Open Details
I decided to spend the last part of my trip visiting a bathing place which is located in a cave rising above the hot springs.
At the entrance, I see the ruins of the Benedictine monastery. There are monks who lived here from the second half of the 14th century until the beginning of the 16th century. The monastery was destroyed after several attacks and the area was swamped. The spa palace was built between 1939 and 1941.
The climate of the cave has medicinal effects. Bathing in the caves created by nature was incredible. I also enjoyed the pleasant massaging of the water flow of wild water. As I am relaxing, I can hear the mysterious echo of the observatory and admire the special forms of the unique natural formation in Europe.
