Half way through your trip to Magdeburg why not stretch your legs at this lovely park and old mining site. This is not just a place to relax from your drive but also an educational experience for you and the children, as you can make a short hike to see old buildings, wells and other structures showing how people lived hundreds of years ago. There is a lot of shade from the trees and some nice gardens making it a good walk before you continue the journey.

Now that you've arrived in Magdeburg it's time for lunch! Whether you're a ravenous carnivore or a salad-loving vegetarian you will love Bralo House. It has the best steaks in Magdeburg (and is in the conversation for best outside of Berlin), but also provides an exquisite salad buffet.

This is one of Magdeburg's most popular attractions and cannot be missed. Inside the beautiful Elbauenpark, full of lovely apple trees, is the Jahrtausendturm, one of the tallest wooden tours in the world. Inside is a joyous array of contraptions, museum features and interactive historical exhibitions. It is essentially a hands-on museum, but really it's so much more. Whether you're 14 or 45 you will have a blast here, learning about cultural history and science through games and devices. A true one of its kind, this tower will teach and entertain you in droves.

After an energised time watching your kids running around in the Jahrtausendturm, it's time to relax with a leisurely stroll around the beautiful Elbauenpark. Known for its delightful apple trees and gorgeous flowers, this park also boasts of exciting things for the whole family to enjoy. The Butterfly House has exotic specimens from around the world, there's also a helter-skelter, a toboggan run, a skate-park, a maze and so much more. I have timed made the duration of this event two hours for the sake of this itinerary, but honestly you could easily spend double that and not see everything this park has to offer! There is something for any child here, regardless of age, gender or personality-type.

Now that it's dinner time, why not try something a little different from all this great German cuisine and pop across the border for some authentic and delicious Czech food. The Wenzel Magdeburg offers just that, offering fantastic meals from the Czech Republic. We recommend the Prague style Rolled-Roast in dark beer-sauce, and after a long day of looking after the kids the superb Czech beer will go down a treat for the parents! (Of course provided that you aren't driving afterwards - the hotel is only a fifteen minute walk away)
