See the Grand Canyon and Finish the Day at Lake Powell

After having breakfast at the hotel and leaving Flagstaff, your first stop is Raptor Ranch, a quirky roadside attraction modeled after the Flintstones cartoon series. Visitors are welcome to walk around the Bedrock City park and take photos. If nothing else, it's a good excuse to stretch your legs and take a break while on the way to the Grand Canyon.
There is a small admission fee for those not staying at the on-site campground.

Enjoy a scenic drive north on State Route 64 through Kaibab National Forest before arriving at Grand Canyon National Park. Follow the signs to Grand Canyon Village and look for a spot at one of the nearby parking lots. El Tovar Hotel (where you'll eat lunch later) is a good place to find a bathroom and take a break in the lobby or on shaded patio. The gift shop sells snacks and water, but if you bring your own empty bottle, you can fill it up at one of the stations on the South Rim dispensing free local spring water.

Grand Canyon National Park is a big place, and you'll be tempted to drive around or take a shuttle bus to explore the area. However, almost everything you really want to see is on the South Rim trail between Grand Canyon Village and the Yavapai Point.
The walk is about 45 minutes each way at a regular pace on a paved pathway and little else between you and incredible views of the canyon. (A little extra time is padded into the schedule to keep you from rushing.) Take your time and use caution. There aren't guard rails. Use common sense and resist the temptation to leave the pathway in order to get closer to the canyon when taking photos.
Yavapai Point is next to a very small geology museum, which may or may not be open. Hours are sporadic.

There aren't a lot of options for dining in Grand Canyon Village. Your best bet for a proper lunch is the on-site restaurant at El Tovar, a historic hotel built in 1905 before the area was designated a national park. Soak in the history of the wood and stone dining room, decorated with murals honoring Native American history.
The lunch menu sticks to classic American cuisine with soups, salads, sandwiches and burgers. Try the Salmon Amandine (with toasted almonds and garlic butter) or one of the vegetarian options like a Beyond Meat burger or meat-free chili.
Reservations are highly recommended, but can only be made in advance online.

Take one more look at the Grand Canyon after lunch with a visit to Mary Colter's Lookout Studio, carved into the cliffside rock for incredible views. Originally designed as a resource and vantage point for photographers, it now operates as a boutique gift shop with a balcony, terrace and series of winding walkways.

Pick up your car, get back on the road and head to Page, Arizona. Take a short detour to Navajo Moenava Dinosaur Tracks to see evidence of prehistoric reptiles who once roamed Arizona. You'll see imprints, fossils and even part of a skeleton. Everything has been verified as authentic by Northern Arizona University paleontologists.
The site operates as an informal roadside museum on tribal land. A Navajo volunteer will offer a guided tour, which is worth accepting to see everything interesting. Just make sure to tip at the end and/or buy some hand-made Navajo jewelry on sale to show thanks.

Rimview Terrace is easily one of the best restaurants in Page, and a welcome change of pace from the more casual alternatives that dominate the area. The menu serves elevated recipes with seasonal ingredients and subtle Native American influences.
Tables are available on the patio or in the main dining room with a view overlooking Vermillion Cliffs with possible glimpses of Lake Powell. Give your preference when booking a reservation. The bar area has open seating. Call 928-645-4952 with any questions.

After a drive through Northern Arizona, you've arrived at the Home2 Suites by HIlton in Page, a small tourist town just south of Lake Powell. Check in, relax and refresh in your room. You'll wake up early the following morning to catch the sunset at Horseshoe Bend.
