Palamidi Castle was constructed by the Venetians, and it's a great example of fortification architecture. The castle changed hands many times in the past, from the Venetians to the Ottomans and back before the Greeks occupied it. Palamidi Castle is of great significance for Greeks since Theodoros Kolokotronis, one of the heroes of the Greek Revolution against the Turks, was imprisoned there.
There are eight bastions to explore in Palamidi Castle. Explore as many as you can for jaw-dropping views of Nafplio Town and Akronafplia Castle.
There is a parking space outside the entrance of the castle.
Opening hours vary seasonally, it's better to check them beforehand on the official website.

Landmark
Open Details
Mycenae, an ancient city that dates back to 2000 BC, was the centre of the Mycenean Civilisation, and it's strongly connected to its mythical king Agamemnon who led the Greeks against the Trojans during the Trojan War. Built atop a hill overlooking the Argolic Gulf, the citadel of Mycenae was fortified by huge walls and is home to the famous Lion Gate.
Upon entering the fortification walls, you will see Grave Circle A with six large graves. On the highest point of the citadel, you will see the ruins of the Mycenae Palace. Before you exit the fortified citadel from a second smaller gate, you will see the entrance to the underground cistern.
Outside the fortifications, you can visit four tholos tombs, among which the Treasure of Atreus is the most impressive. The Treasure of Atreus Tomb is situated a few minutes on foot from the main archaeological site.
