Poznan, Colours and Croissants

Before you take the car to drive to the main destination of the day, you can take a short walk around the surroundings of the hotel in Gnizno.
For example, walk along Chrobrego Street to the market square and then along Tumska Street to the cathedral. You will come across many cafés, restaurants and postcards to be photographed.

The Gniezno Cathedral, also called the Basilica Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, is a Gothic cathedral that is notable for two things: the first is that it has two bronze doors from the 12th century. The second is the silver sarcophagus with relics of the saint Adalbert.

Welcome to the city of Poznan! Leave your car in this centrally located car park and enjoy the city.

Get ready to tour one of the most beautiful historic centres in Poland (although the country has many beautiful ones!). The tour can start at the picturesque Main Square or former Market Square.
The square is surrounded by colourfully painted houses of different styles. If you wander around you will also find four fountains with sculptures.

In the middle of the square you will see a beautiful building which is the Poznan Town Hall. If you come back here at 12 noon, you can see the goats that look out from the clock tower being struck 12 times.
This building also houses the Poznan City Museum, but it is closed. When you are in town, you can check if it is open. Also, yo can check it in the website.

The merchants' houses are a sequence of narrow, colourful houses with pictures on their facades. These houses, like much of the city, were destroyed in the Second World War, but have been rebuilt so that they can be enjoyed.
Come and see all the details. You will love them, they give a special colour to the whole square.

The Lesser Basilica of St. Stanislaus is a beautiful baroque church with an organ with more than 2,600 pipes.

Time for lunch! You can walk along Szewska Street and choose one of the many options there. For example, if you want to eat pizza, you can choose Frontiera.

If you prefer other types of food, you'll find plenty of choice around this street and Żydowska Street.

After lunch there is a fun activity in the Croissant Museum. Although it is not a museum as such, you can learn a lot about the history of croissants and their importance for the city of Poznan.
You can admire the interior decoration of the Renaissance building, make and taste your own croissants and have fun with the stories and legends they tell you.
The appointment is at 14:00 (in English) and it is recommended to buy your ticket in advance. But you have to check the times and prices of the tours in English, because at certain times of the year they are only open on Saturdays and Sundays. You can do this on the museum's website.
Note: You must arrive 10 min before the show starts at the museum entrance. If you are late, your ticket may be cancelled.

The Royal Castle is a 13th century castle, which was rebuilt after the Second World War. It is worth a visit to the castle to climb up to the castle tower, which offers a beautiful view of the city.

Another place where you can stroll around and see stately buildings is the so-called Plaza de la Libertad (Liberty Square). Here you will find the Fountain of Liberty.
In this square, during November and December there is the Christmas market, which is full of stands and lights.

Maybe is a good time for coffe. If you want, you can stop at the Da Vinci café, a charming place with delicious sweet cakes. You won't know which one to choose! You can also try Poznan's famous croissants here.

Before returning to Warsaw, you can take a tour of the Cathedral and Basilica of St. Peter and Paul, a beautiful neoclassical building with Gothic elements remaining after all the renovations it has undergone. The cathedral dates back to the 10th century and was the first cathedral in Poland.
Open Hours The Cathedral is usually open daily from 7:00 to 19:00, but sometimes there are later masses.

Finally, you can cross the Jordan Bridge and walk down another picturesque street with light-coloured houses and several cafés that, in summer, decorate the streets with their tables, chairs and flowers.

The purpose of crossing the bridge is to get to the Śródka district to see one of the most beautiful murals I have ever seen. The mural is located on the corner of Śródka and Rynek Śródecki streets. It depicts the life of the neighbourhood in the past, with a 3D effect.

It's time to go back! Return to the car park to pick up the car and drive back to Warsaw.

As the return journey to Warsaw is a long one, it is proposed to stop for dinner in the city of Lowicz.
