Atchison is steeped in history and the Cray Historical Home Museum is a fine place to experience and see what life on these plains looked like for the early frontiersmen and settlers who acquired great wealth.
W.W. Hetherington, founder of the Exchange National Bank of Atchison, built the 1892 mansion with no expense spared. A classic piece of Victorian opulence, the home was modeled after a beloved Scottish castle by Mrs. Hetherington.
The entire first floor features furniture made in Europe and transported back to Kansas just for the Hetherington family.
