Portoroz and Piran

After a good breakfast at the hotel, the first suggestion of the day is to visit the salt pans in the Sečovlje Salina Nature Park.
The park has two sections, which are entered from different places. One is Lera and the other is Fontaniggie.
In Lera, salt is obtained as it was in medieval times. Here you can see unique landscapes and enjoy cycling and walking tours. You will also find a visitor center, baths, a lookout point with a beautiful panoramic view of the Sečovlje salt pans, a shop for buying salt and the only open-air thalassotherapy spa in the salt pans.
In Fontaniggie salt production was abandoned, but you can visit the Salt Museum and see the abandoned buildings that speak of the salt-making past. It is also the area of the salt pans where there is the greatest variety of natural habitats.
The park can be visited on your own or on a guided tour (the required number of people must be gathered for each guided tour). The guided tour lasts between one and a half and two hours. For more information about the guided tours, please visit this website.

After visiting the nature park, it is time for lunch. The proposal is to walk along the coast to Piran and find a place to eat.
If you are with small children, you can drive to this car park and then continue on foot. Another option is to do it all on foot. It's a very nice road.

Almost at the entrance of the old town of Piran you will find this restaurant where you can eat Eastern European food, tasty and at a good price.
You will be in front of the bay full of boats and very close to the most beautiful places in the city.

The next stop is the beautiful and picturesque Piazza Tartini, an oval square with marble floors and buildings painted in soft pastel colors. The square is named after the composer Guissepe Tartini, who was born in one of the houses surrounding the square and has a statue in his honor.
Soak up the atmosphere of the square, watch the various daily scenes and, if you're with children, let them run around.

The next suggestion is to wander through the narrow streets of the beautiful old town and fall in love with Piran.
On the way, go up to St. George's Church for a beautiful view of the town of Piran, with its red roofs, its oval square, its walls, its coast and its sea.
If you arrive and the church is closed, you'll still get a good view. If it is open, you can climb up to a viewing platform for very little money.

Then you can walk to the lighthouse at the end of the peninsula, where the wind blows stronger, and the waves hit the rocks hard.
Next to the lighthouse, there is the small church of San Clemente.
You can continue walking along the coast or through the narrow streets of the old town. This last option is the one I like the most because there is always a daily scene to be photographed.

You can choose a café along the way or go to this ice-cream shop and enjoy a delicious ice-cream with the family. They also sell coffee and sweet cakes, ideal for this time of the day and to prepare for the return journey.

Return to pick up the car for the return trip to Ljubljana.

On the way back, you can load the vehicle at this site. There is plenty of parking space.
