This well-preserved 16th-century city fortress stands on a rocky outcrop more than 100 metres above city level. It is surrounded by a moat approximately 2 km long.
From its ramparts there are beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. There are also underground tour areas.
The ticket is available at the tourist office and also includes admission to the museum of fotification and the Jules Bastien-Lepage museum, as well as a tour of the ramparts.
To park, you have to pass over the lift bridges and through the tunnel, the car park is on the right hand side. From there you can walk to the tourist office, right beside the entrance

It was one of the entrances to the walled city, other gates like this one that made up the wall were demolished in order to use their materials for other constructions, but it was at this gate that the hermit Simeon settled in the 11th century, then in his honour the gate was converted into a two-storey church and this fact caused it to be preserved.

Another monument that is well worth visiting illuminated at night is this cathedral, built on the site of a 4th century Roman house.
According to some sources, the house was a gift from the mother of Emperor Constantine to Bishop Agricius. It is also where the Relic of the Holy Robe is kept, which, according to the story, was brought to Trier by Helena. It is not known exactly whether this piece is authentic and due to its poor state of preservation it is not exhibited to the public.
