Kentucky is known for a culture of horse breeding, riding and racing – and that's especially true in Lexington. Spend at least two hours at the Kentucky Horse Park. The farm and competition track covers 1,200 beautifully landscaped acres with walking trails, carriage rides and a Smithsonian-affiliated museum. Just seeing the thoroughbred horses up close is an experience all by itself with rides and presentations available. The Hall of Champions barn is home to famous race winners.
Expect to pay admission and parking fees. The park is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

Enjoy lunch in downtown Lexington at Stella's Kentucky Deli. Sandwiches, burgers, soups and other dishes are made with local meats and produce for a fresh, crisp taste. The restaurant prepares all recipes from scratch in a historic building that was once a home. Ask for an order of fried green tomatoes on the side. A brunch menu is served on weekends.

Continue to soak in Lexington's history with a walk down Jefferson Street to the Mary Todd Lincoln House. The former First Lady grew up in the home during the 1830s and would return later to visit with husband Abraham Lincoln. The 14-room house has been preserved as a museum with guests invited to take self-guided tours. Make sure to spend some time in the lovely backyard garden.
An admission fee. Book an advance online to guarantee entry. The Mary Todd Lincoln House is closed on Sundays.

Walk back to Sella's Kentucky Deli to pick up your car. Time to head north toward Cincinnati.

You've arrived in Cincinnati, although you're still technically in Kentucky on the south side of the Ohio River. You'll have a great time hanging out at Bridgeview Box Park, an outdoor promenade with bars, food stands and other businesses built from shipping containers.
Feel free to enjoy a French-style pancake from CrepeGuys, bubble tea from Bon Mi Street, a cocktail from Kon Tiki or another refreshment, but save room for dinner at your next stop. You're really here to enjoy views of the waterfront and Cincinnati skyline. The park is part of the larger Newport on the Levee shopping complex with plenty of businesses to visit.

Skyline Chili was founded in Cincinnati more than 70 years ago and now has dozens of locations throughout Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Pull off Interstate 74 in Dent to see what the iconic chain is all about.
Cincinnati-style chili, initially popular with Greek immigrants, is typically served on pasta with shredded cheese on top. The chili itself is made with beef and Mediterranean spices, almost like a heartier version of a pasta sauce.
This particular Skyline Chili is on the newer side and geared toward travelers with extended hours and a convenient off-highway location.

Pull over and stretch your legs in the cozy Indiana enclave of Greenburg. The town is best known for the Decatur County Courthouse, a strange sight with a full-sized tree growing out of its steeple. Catch a glimpse of the historic brick building while driving down Main Street and snap a few photos.
