Alien Venues, Stars and a Warm Bath

On the third day of the route you will see and enjoy many unexpected surprises. You will see a reserve of wild animals, typical of these lands. Visit a region that seems to be from another planet, a most peculiar forest that only exists in this corner of the map. Then you'll have to make your own Apacheta, in a sea of Apachetas, so that the gods will protect you.
You'll see and touch an Inca legacy that will shock you with its degree of perfection. You will bathe in thermal waters between the mountains that will renew your energy. Cross an Inca bridge from where the views are incredible and you'll end up the day looking closely at a starry sky as you never imagined.

I recommend you stop here to see an extensive reserve of vicuñas in the wild. It is a spectacle to see these native animals grazing peacefully on these lands.
Although the landscape is arid, you will be captivated by its grandeur and extension. The rock formations are also very curious and striking.
The vicuña is an animal that only lives in high altitude regions, in the altiplano between Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile. Only in this part of the world. They are highly appreciated for the fineness of their fleece, which is used to produce high quality fabrics. For this reason, in many places they live in captivity... It is beautiful to see them free here.

From this point you'll see curious rock formations left by lava that form extraordinary landscapes. If you walk a little bit further you will feel like you are visiting another world, they are incredible landscapes. I took a picture with a red filter and they look like a postcards from Mars!
Keep in mind that it is in an isolated area and very high above sea level. So it's good to take precautions. Take bottles of water with you all the time. In pharmacies, they can give you something specific to avoid altitude sickness.

Here you have to get down the car and make your own apacheta in this immense field at an altitude of more than 5000 metres. They are to worship the gods and ask for protection on the journey.
Important: Gods don't like when you steal stones from another apacheta to create your own (Hahaha... yeah.. you can imagine how I learned that!!)... That's the main rule, respect others apachetas!! Find your stones.

After lunch I recommend a walk to appreciate an archaeological legacy in the middle of the village. A sample of the great Inca engineeringis this stone, carved with incredible perfection.
The Incas did not use anything to hold their stones together, only the precision of knowing how to fit them masterfully. There is another twelve-angled stone also in the beautiful city of Cuzco, cradle of the Inca empire. I have been lucky enough to see both and the only difference is that the one in Cuzco is larger but otherwise, both make the same impression when seen up close.

These hot springs are a gift for the body, we were there on a very cold day, when the evening was falling and we loved it.
Some friends we met on the trip, brought a bottle of chilean wine... We ended up drinking wine in the pool, looking at the stars. It was a moment we will never forget.
Be careful with the change of temperature when you get out of the water, it will leave you with a strange sensation at first but then your whole body will be reactivated full of energy.
    For more information click here.
It is open daily from 04:00 to 18:00 hs.
Remember to bring a swimming costume, clothes to get dressed after bathing, sunscreen, a hat or cap, sunglasses, cash and towels or bath towels.

Picturesque square, surrounded by mountains and where the locals always sit with their typical costumes to offer regional products and typical food of the area. A very nice and pleasant place, take a break to enjoy it. If you are interested in products made with the precious alpaca wool, this is an ideal place to get good quality garments. Here I got a very nice pullover!

It is a very beautiful bridge made of stone. It was built in the Tahuantisuyo period and was crossed by the Incas to reach the hot springs.
The views are stunning and will take your breath away. Crossing this bridge there's also a viewpoint from where you can appreciate the rest of the valley.
Afterwards I suggest you go back to get the car for the next point, which is not far but you have to go back after next activity at night...
