You don't need to travel halfway across the world to enjoy beautiful African art. Located right by the water, the ZimArt Rice Lake Gallery features a collection of hand-carved sculptures from over 50 Zimbabwean artists. Not only can you nab yourself a piece to take home (prices start at $100), but the gallery grounds make for an excellent opportunity to reconnect with nature.

Nestled in the hills of Northumberland, Haute Goat makes for the perfect day out for the whole family. Get up close and personal with a whole menagerie that includes alpacas, Icelandic horses, Nigerian Dwarf goats, and more. Go for a ride on a hay wagon, take an alpaca for a walk, or snuggle with a furry goat.

You'll feel like you're back in the Victorian era with a 4-course afternoon tea in a charming room filled with antiques from the 1800s. You'll be spoilt with a flower-filled extravaganza at the Oshawa Valley Botanical Gardens, which is a wonderland of multiple gardens and parks hidden in downtown Oshawa. Traipse past waterfalls, stop and admire the famous peonies, or stop and catch some shade in the gazebo.

If you haven't tried ice wine before, there won't be a more perfect opportunity than at the family-owned Willow Springs Winery. The winery is within the Oak Ridges Moraine, providing excellent terroir to ensure only the highest quality wine (they were the first to receive VQA Ontario certification in the York region) is produced. The Testa family have owned and run the winery for over five decades and still utilise the Old World techniques that their Italian ancestors used. Though VQA Reds and Whites are also available, it's really their award-winning ice wine that stands out. Consider doing a wine flight to get a taste of what's on offer and you'll be hard pressed not to bring home or a bottle or two.

Though Dundas West is also known as Toronto's Little Portugal, it's this hip and innovative restaurant that celebrates all things Canada that you need to head to. Local wild and foraged ingredients are the star at this trendy joint and when the weather is good, you can enjoy it all on their very own patio. Enjoy unique dishes from their progressive menu such as duck heart yakitori with a sweet soy glaze, East Coast Bay scallop crudo, deer ragout with house-made cavatelli, and a cedar granita for dessert.
