A Beautiful Castle, an Ancient Brewery in the Alps and the Sound of Music
Last day of the richest and most joyful route!
You will start by visiting something that was pending from yesterday... The great Castle of Český Krumlov. A jewel! The second-largest castle after Prague in the whole Czech Republic. You will also visit the tower and the castle gardens, crossing the famous Plášťový Pláš Bridge (Mantle Bridge).
Then you will depart towards the city of Linz, already in Austria again. You will visit its central square, which is the largest enclosed square in Europe. In a brewery in front of the Danube I will tell you which beer, with a medieval recipe, originally from the Alps, stole my heart...
From there you will head to the Alps to visit the old Hofbräu Kaltenhausen, where you will take a very interesting tour to learn all the mysteries of the different beers, their grains and hundreds of facts while touring the facilities that have been producing a unique beer since 1475, thanks to the raw materials and the natural water source of the high mountains. After the tour, I will show you the place where the mythical scene of Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music was filmed, and you will end up dancing and singing there with the dreamy scenery that you will have all around.
Important: I recommend you to read all the points previously in order to make reservations in advance and enjoy the tour without worries.

Good morning!!
Today you will start your last day of the tour, visiting the second-largest castle in the Czech Republic, after the one in Prague.
As you can imagine, to see it in detail you would have to spend a whole day getting to know it... and that's not the idea. Because this is the medieval beer route and there is still a lot of beer to try!!!
There are plenty of places to see today, throughout the day. That's why I suggest that you choose just one of the main tours: number 1 or number 2 (I enjoyed a lot Tour 1, which covers the oldest parts of the original castle, was great), then you could continue by visiting The Tower and after that, to the open public areas with free access like the gardens if you couldn't visit them the day before.
(This is just a proposal)
Here you will find information about the tours and timetables, you can also buy your tickets online choosing guide language.

I recommend you to visit this beautifully ornamented and detailed tower. It has the best views of this city you could hope for.
For me, it was like looking at antique doll's houses set or one of those scale model cities that are used as a backdrop in a film or like peeping into a fairy-tale setting. It was great!!
Don't worry… It's not that high!!
Yes, I know I'm making you climb many towers.... How do you think I lost all the pounds I gained from beer? Well… by climbing all the towers I came across on my way! hahaha...!
Tickets can be bought at the tower itself.
Here you have information about opening hours.

That's right, you are in the largest enclosed square in Europe, with more than 13,000 square meters of surface, and don't tell me it's not beautiful! Lined with colorful buildings, teeming with life...
It is the nerve center of Linz.
It has a column of the Holy Trinity in the center that, as it happens in the Czech cities you have visited, commemorates the end of the plague and remembers those who died of the disease.
I visited the city while traveling with some friends, and there was a craft market in the square those days, there were also food stalls on one side of the market.
I ate standing up because there were many people. Eating there, we met a couple who told us where to drink a very special beer, typical of the Alps, called Edelweiss... Ah... I fell in love with the taste of that beer, and it became one of my favorites ever since. Below, I tell you where to go to try it.

Here, in this very place, is where I first tasted and fell in love with the Edelweiß weißbier, overlooking the Danube... Perfect!
They have a wide range of beers but, obviously, I'm going to recommend you the Edelweiss... The brewery that brews it follows the original recipes of the old Hofbräu Kaltenhausen brewery, in the Alps...
But as I told you, we only came here to try the beer, well ... You're right, the "beers", plural (we tried several times).... But a friend of our group didn't like what there was to eat here, so we went to have lunch at....
(I leave it below, with the time for lunch divided in two, in case you want to stay here, overlooking the Danube...)
Summer opening hours: Monday - Tuesday: 15:00 - 22:00 Wednesday - Friday: 12:00 - 22:00 Saturday - Sunday: closed

I'm sure my friend already had this place on his list of "places to go to eat".
They really have unique and very innovative dishes (my friend is more refined, I'd be happy with a hamburger and a good Edelweiss .... hahaha!).
If you decide to try this restaurant, I recommend you to order.... whatever you want!!! All the dishes looked great: mine, my friends' dishes, the dishes from the tables around us.... I wanted to eat everything (yes, I must admit that with a simple hamburger, that doesn't happen to me...).

This place is incredible, it is the oldest brewery in Salzburg and the oldest wheat brewery in Austria.
Built in 1475, it has passed through different hands until today, but the important thing is to visit the facilities and taste the beers that are made here today, following traditional processes and with the blessing of mountain water, which is part of its success.
The brewery lounge is beautiful! We sat there after the tour and... You can imagine what kind of beer I ordered here too.... Yes!!! Edelweiss!! mmmm.... I would drink one right now!!!
Very important!!! You have to book your visit well in advance (4 days minimum). Here you have all the information.
I did the classic tour. There are other tours with tastings of different beers, which I'm sure are very good too. But, being that I'm not an expert on the subject, I loved the classic tour. We did it in English with my friends and the guide was passionate about everything related to beer, we had a great time and learned a lot!!!

Shall I tell you how I ended up here singing like Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music...?????
...Of course!!
We had finished the tour at the brewery and sat down to have a drink.... "?".... That's right!
Edelweiss for me, please!"
As I didn't want to try another beer and I was already very insistent about how much I liked that beer, I said to my friends, I was in love with it and I started singing "Edelweiss.... Edelweisss..." (also a song from the same movie).
The waiter, who was serving us, commented that if we liked the movie, we were very close to the place where the famous scene of Julie Andrews singing in the meadow had been filmed..... "What !!"
So, we didn't need to talk about it much, we were all from "that" generation (and the younger one had to keep quiet and comply). We all got into two cars (there were 7 of us) and went to see the place. The sun was going down, but it didn't matter, the whole area is incredibly beautiful!!!
We stopped next to some houses and asked a man who was around if he could tell us where the famous place was and if we could leave the vehicles there. He pointed out the place and told us to leave the cars there, that it didn't matter if it was just for a while (We were lucky, one of the group speaks German!!!).
Obviously, when we got to the place, we started singing and dancing just like they did in the movie (if you see the videos we took, you'll realize that I dance and sing just like Julia Andrews .... hahahaah!!!..)
We didn't stay long because the cars were badly parked, and the sun was beating down in a hurry. So for dinner, we had no better idea than to go back to the BräuStübl brewery to finish our trip together.

We ended up having dinner here and it was an excellent choice. We were in a different room than the one we had been in after the tour. We ate very well (roast beef, if I remember correctly) and had a great time, with a great atmosphere.
Of course, I recommend you to book in advance to secure a place. We were lucky to get a free table.
That day was a special occasion for us, after that moment the group of friends would split up and return each one to their homes. So imagine, we were among the last to leave...
Opening hours: Wednesday - Sunday: 10:00 - 23:00
As I did with my friends and in this same place, say goodbye to you...(Although this time I'm sober... hahaha!!!)
I loved to share this route with you. All my experiences and passions (beers, places, anecdotes and ... the bridges!!!! ). I hope to meet you on another route either in person or through this medium!!!
Let's travel a lot!!!!
See you!!!
