Park your car in the "Parcheggio Iseo Martiri della Libertà", through via 20th Settembre, and continue exploring the area by foot.

Start the day with a walk along the shores of this placid lake surrounded by the morainic hills, on which extends the area called Franciacorta, land of sparkling wine.
This lake is less known than Lake Garda or Lake Como, yet there are plenty of activities to do here: hiking or biking trails, delightful villages to visit, beautiful beaches for sunbathing.

Oldofredi Castle, located 5-minutes walking from the Iseo historical centre, is an ancient and well-preserved castle in bare stone.
Its existence is mentioned in some documents dated late 9th – early 10th century, but it's in the 13th and 14th centuries that the rectangular plan and the massive corner towers were built for defensive purposes.
The Castle can be visited freely from the outside and on the ground floor, where the library, a small war museum and the cloister are located.

“Wetland of international importance”, this Natural Reserve is a magical place where water encounters the land.
360 hectares of marshy land, dotted with reeds, where the water reflects the clouds, surrounded by a landscape of fields, vineyards and the roads of Franciacorta.
An ecological mix that changes color according to the moment you observe it and that never ceases to surprise visitors, especially the birdwatching enthusiasts.
The Natural Reserve of Torbiere del Sebino can be visited through some very easy trails on a gravel road and on wooden walkways.
No specific clothing is required. However, it is advised to wear comfortable and non-slippery shoes.
There are 3 main gates to enter the footpath: Iseo, Provaglio and Corte Franca.

Visiting this ancient monastery surrounded by nature and with a wonderful view of the Torbiere del Sebino means taking a journey through time.
Located on a rocky rise overlooking the Natural reserve of the Torbiere del Sebino, this monastery has been built around 1100 A.D. in a land where a small private church lay.
The Monastery of San Pietro in Lamosa is the oldest and the only still recognizable of the Cluniac foundations of Sebino. In fact, the complex belonged for about four centuries to the Cluniac monks.
The visit also includes the Romanesque church and the Oratory of the Disciplini: the frescoes will leave you breathless. End your visit in the small internal cloister and an intricate succession of rooms where monks used to live.

The Monastic Complex of the Abbazia Olivetata San Nicola includes many buildings and annexes (the church, 3 cloisters, the monumental gallery, the refectory, the library, the museum).
The monastic complex played a fundamental role in the history of this geographical area. It is, in fact, the Benedictine Cluniac Monks who established the "francha curtis", or "corte franca" (free land), an area free from the authorities giving it the name of Franciacorta.
The monks have therefore been the protagonists of the rebirth of the religious life and land reclamation, changing the history of Franciacorta forever.
Visiting this place means getting a better understanding of today's day trip around Franciacorta.

And here we are: the wine tasting!
While driving today, you've seen many wineries, some of them really popular (like Berlucchi or Bellavista).

The medieval era gave us this beautiful castle in the heart of Franciacorta, which has become one of the symbols of this area.
The Castle was built in 1100 for defensive purposes, as can be understood from the massive walls, the ancient moat and the two semicircular towers.
One of these two towers, the Torre della Specola, was used as an astronomical observatory in the 18th century.
The access portal dates back to the eighteenth century.
Today, the Castle is privately owned, and it cannot be visited inside. However, a nice walk along the walls will allow you to see the grandeur of the castle, and to enjoy the beautiful view of the surrounding hills.
