- Get to know magical villages surrounded by mountains such as Frias and Orbaneja del Castillo.
- Contemplate the views of the Ebro river gorge from an amazing viewpoint.
- Taste the local gastronomy, such as black pudding or meat cooked in a wood oven.
The north of the province of Burgos is characterized by its mountains with forests, riverbeds that run through this landscape and form canyons and waterfalls. In this natural environment, medieval villages are nestled in the valleys and castles perched on the rocky heights that served as a defense centuries ago.
During the two-day route you will come across some surprises worth admiring: houses hanging over the cliffs, castles that have been transformed into viewpoints of the surroundings, waterfalls in the middle of the villages and natural pools left by nature where you can even bathe. You won't want to miss it!
As if this were not enough, the gastronomy of the area invites you to taste typical dishes starting with the emblem of the villages of the north of Burgos, its black pudding.

Natural Landscapes of Burgos: Rivers, Salt Lakes and Waterfalls
The first day of the route goes through the so-called Raíces de Castilla community (Castilian Roots)
The first stop is Poza de la Sal, a village where salt is still extracted and whose salt mines are also used for tourist purposes. Did you know that you can float in the salt pools? Then the route continues to two other villages: Oña and Tobera.
In Oña, the main heritage site is the monastery, a mixture of various architectural styles and where ancient kings of Castile are buried. The last stop of the day is in Tobera where the Molinar river divides the village in two and forms waterfalls.

Mountain Villages on the Banks of the Ebro River
The second day of the route follows the course of the Ebro River to visit two of the most beautiful villages in the province: Frías and Orbaneja del Castillo.
Surrounded by green mountains and on top of the rock, these medieval villages preserve the remains of castles and natural beauties.
On the way between the two villages, there will be an essential stop to make: the viewpoint of the Ebro canyon, where the river bed passes between rock walls 200 meters high.
