Ancient Roman Sites and Turkish Cultural Experiences Around the Aegean

This four-day road trip is packed full of sights and experiences. It’ll take you back to ancient Roman times where you can imagine being a gladiator at the training school and fighting in one of the huge stadiums. Or you may prefer to be a Roman scholar, visiting the grand library at Ephesus, or a pilgrim trekking to Didim to hear the prophesies of the Oracle, or even a wealthy merchant sponsoring the building of a new temple at Euromos.
As well as visiting some of the best archaeological sites in the region, you’ll also learn about olive oil and carpets, and there’s also Izmir’s bustling market, a traditional carpet-making village, and a spooky bat cave to check out. For ‘fun’ activities, there’s a traditional hammam (Turkish bath) experience, an underground swimming pool, and a chance to walk across the sea to an island.
All great road trips should also include food & drink and, on this trip, you can try Turkish ‘pizza’ and ‘pasties’, an ‘all-day breakfast’ and the slightly more unusual brains ‘sandwich’. To wash it down, there’s some award-winning wines to taste, as well as a more ‘local’ fruit wine – the kind you get in a village fete.
