The Saint Patrick’s Well is an incredible and impressive site, a true masterpiece of Renaissance engineering, whose construction was ordered by Pope Clement VII in 1527, with the aim of supplying the city with water in case of siege.
The Well has a considerable depth (about 54 metres) and a clever double-helical staircase structure, so that those descending never meet those ascending. Have fun going down (and up!) the 248 steps to the bottom, see if you can keep up with your kids, who will have the time of their lives!
The visit is very interesting and also recommended for children, but remember to be careful as the windows facing the centre of the well are very large and open.
For more information on the Well and tickets (booking recommended but not compulsory), see the website.

Don't miss this Cistercian Gothic Abbey, a place of incredible beauty and one-of-a-kind.
The particularity of the Abbey is, in fact, that it has no roof, which collapsed in 1786 due to a lightning strike and has never been rebuilt since then. Definitely an evocative place that will stimulate the imagination of the whole family.

The Hermitage of Montesiepi may seem like a boring stop to visit with children, but be assured that they will change their minds when you tell them that they can find the real Sword in the Stone here! That's right, inside the Hermitage is the sword that St Galgano drove into a rock in 1180, thus performing his first miracle.
The sword is protected by a reliquary (because years ago it was damaged by a visitor who, feeling like a modern King Arthur, tried to pull it out of the rock...), but the sight is nonetheless fascinating and a special way to immerse oneself in medieval history between reality and legend.
Next to the Hermitage you can also visit a chapel with wonderful frescoes by Ambrogio Lorenzetti.
The opening times may vary, so it is advisable to visit the website.

End this wonderful day in Certaldo Alto, a charming village famous for being the birth and death place of the famous Giovanni Boccaccio. And it is precisely chatting about the 14th-century writer and his immortal novellas collected in the Decameron that might accompany you on a pleasant stroll through the narrow streets of the historic centre, before reaching the restaurant that bears his name.
The restaurant Da Messer Boccaccio will know how to transport you to the Medieval atmosphere from the moment you enter, thanks to the ancient vaults and flooring that have been brought back to light and, above all, by bringing back in vogue recipes from the period, such as the delicious Certaldo red onion soup, which you absolutely cannot not try.
You can also ask the staff to show you the cellars, where typical medieval tools such as halberds, shields, helmets and swords are kept. This is a unique experience to immerse yourself in the culture of times past with taste and fun.
