Survey the impressive old town square and admire the handsome city hall and Perlach Tower.
Built during the early 1600's, the city hall is often referred to as the Golden Hall, due to its opulently guilded interior wooden ceiling. Work was also carried out at the same time to heighten the original 10th century tower, to its present height of 70 meters.
Note: the observation deck in the Perlach Tower is currently closed, which is a shame, since you could receive a lovely view of the Alps to the south.

Hans Jakob Fugger Monument
Outdoor Sculpture
Open Details
This statue is dedicated to Hans Jakob Fugger, an important patron of the arts in Augsburg from a merchant banker family. Notably, Fugger brought Titian's pupil Antonio Ponzano to Augsburg to paint frescoes. Also, his library, which he donated to Albert the Fifth, became the nucleus of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek. The Fugger monument was erected by King Ludwig the First of Bavaria in gratitude to his philanthropy.

Museum
Open Details
Spend some time wandering through the fascinating displays of the Maximilian Museum and top up your knowledge of Augsburg's cultural history.
The museum tells Augsburg's story through displays of its silver working industry, scientific instruments, clocks, porcelain and pottery. The highlight of the museum is arguably in the Viermetzhof courtyard, which exhibits impressive bronze sculptures.
Enjoy a light lunch in the museum's café before heading back to your car. By the way, do you remember your visit to the Römisches Museum? Before the museum found its current home, the stone monuments were in this café (yes, this is where you dine), the imprints of the pedestals might be still visible in the floor slabs.

While admiring the cathedral, consider Donauwörth's place within the causes of the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648). It was in this town that the Protestant majority stopped a Catholic procession from occurring in 1606, causing a riot to develop, ratcheting up the pre-war tensions.

Visit the fascinating Rieskrater Museum and discover the story of the massive meteor that impacted the area around 15 million years ago. The meteor was almost one mile across, travelled at 100,000 miles per hour, and destroyed all life within 100 miles. The meteor's imprint left the Ries Crater, the massive circular valley in which Nördlingen now sits.
Of note within the museum's collection is a genuine moon rock from Apollo 16 on loan from NASA. This was a thank-you to Nördlingen for hosting the training of Apollo 14 astronauts.
The exhibits are only described in German; however, the museum provides iPads which will translate the display information. Please note that from November to February the next activity closes earlier, and it takes at least 45 minutes to enjoy the climb. So if you are traveling in winter, take this into account; you may have to visit the Rieskrater Museum at an accelerated pace.
