- Trek to the World's End.
- Catch some rays on a secluded beach.
- Visit an old World War II fortress.
One of Norway's best-kept secrets, the island town of Nøtterøy has an enviable location just an hour and a half from Oslo but is far enough away to still feel like you're in another world. It's a favourite summer destination for Norwegians living in bigger cities and is the perfect location to slow down, relax, and spend time out in the sunshine on the water. The nearest city is Tønsberg, Norway's oldest town, and locals regularly make the ten-minute drive over to enjoy the social scene and meet up with friends for a night on the town. Both Nøtterøy and Tønsberg are part of the Vestfold viking trail, and there's a lot of history in the area--from excavated burial grounds with an intact viking ship to World War II forts.

A Seaside Escape to Norway's Cape Cod
Nøtterøy can be considered Norway's Cape Cod – similar to what New Yorkers do on the weekends, you won't have to travel far outside of the capital to enjoy the sun, sand, and a more chilled out pace of life. You'll venture through the Drammen spiral on your way from Oslo, with a short stop to take in the city view from the top. Enjoy scenic views on the water, a trek to "The World's End", learn about Nøtterøy's role in World War II history, enjoy local baked delights and go island hopping. Your day will end with a ferry to Moss for a dining experience with a side of art appreciation before you make your way back to Oslo.

Bolærnebåten
Harbor / Marina
Open Details
The best way to see the collection of islands surrounding Nøtterøy is by boat, which is why most residents have their own and will often be seen sailing from one island to another. It's not uncommon to see uninhabited islands dotted with multi-coloured towels with people sunbathing and relaxing. If you don't have a boat of your own, the Bolærnebåten company runs ferries four times a day from Tønsberg. The ferry will take you around the Bolærne archipelago, which lies on the edge of the Oslofjord.
