A Palace, Smoked Fish and Bears on Your Way to the Lakes

Berlin has probably been very nice to you since it is an awesome city where is lots to do and see, but Germany has more to offer than just Berlin. You are going to leave the city behind for just a few days to do some exploring, and you will even cross the border to Poland! But first, Oranienburg!

The Oranienburg Palace is the oldest baroque building in Mark Brandenburg. The beautiful Prussian Palace dates from 1651. It was built for the Princess of Orange-Nassau - Louise Henriette. Her son, King Frederick I, expanded the palace and put in exquisite furniture to honour his mother. These days you can look around, and see masterful works of art.

In the Tempelgarten you can walk around in a romantic atmosphere. There is lots of green that gives you shade in warm summers. In fall the colours of the leaves are spectacular. There is a restaurant next to the Tempelgarten where you can have a cup of coffee beware you go on your walk through the park. You can also have lunch here if you don't like to have fish for lunch, which is your next stop.

If you didn't have lunch yet, this is the place to stop now to have something great to eat. In this Räucherei, which you can translate as 'smokery' you can get the best smoked fish. Beware the place is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The bear forest is a great initiative that rescues bears from difficult circumstances. They are saved from zoos, circuses and private homes and because they are used to being kept in captivity, it is not possible to put them back in the wild. Here, those bears have found a home where they can be real bears again.

This church ruïn is getting restored. Before it is, you have a chance to see it in its old state. Which is very interesting. Except for the ruin, this is also a nice and tranquil spot to get out of the car for half an hour.

This little restaurant makes you feel right at home. You can enjoy your meal inside the restaurant but is also possible to sit outside. Recommended on the menu is the schnitzel. This is a perfect place to enjoy a nice German meal, thanks to the friendly staff.

After dinner you can go for a stroll towards the lake. There you can find Marie's beach bar (strandbar) where you can enjoy a nice cocktail. When you are the one driving, you can choose a virgin cocktail. Open until 22:00.

Pick up your car. Time to go to your hotel.
