This is your first day and you explore Düsseldorf.
Begin your journey with the Neanderthal Museum where you learn about the history of humankind. Your next stop is a beautiful Baroque mansion, Schloss Benrath. It is home for three museums which gives you an insight of the history of Benrath and the garden. They are also representing a collection of local flora and fauna and animal sculptures. Next you visit this beautiful Baroque mansion which was built between 1755 and 1771 for Elector Carl Theodor. The building is used as a summer and hunting palace. Today it gives home for three museums.
Begin with the main building where you find the Museum Corps de Logis. It contains 80 rooms and features the history of Benrath. Next, visit the Museum for European Garden Art. Here you learn about the history of garden art and maintenance. Then continue your exploration with the Museum of Natural History. It exhibits various local flora and fauna as well as a collection of animal sculptures by Josef Pallen.
Finally, take a walk in the gardens and the huge Palace Park. Admire the French styled Electress garden which contains cascades, geometric beds, pools, and straight paths. Discover the Elector garden which was turned into a landscape garden in 1807.
At the gatehouse you find the Palace Café and the Museum shop. In the 19th century this place was a home for watchmen.

After lunch, you walk back to the market square where you find the imposing Town Hall (Rathaus). It was built in 1570 by Heinrich Tussmann. Throughout its history, the town hall was renewed and extended several times. Admire the combination of Baroque and Neo-Renaissance architectural styles.
In the center of the square stands a large equestrian monument of Elector Jan – Wellem. It was erected in 1711 by the Italian sculptor, Gabriel Grupello. Wellem was the founder of the Düsseldorfer Gemäldegalerie (picture gallery) which was the foundation of the art metropolis on the Rhine.
This life-sized statue features Wellem's power and political influence. The electoral hat and marshal's baton reflect his status as general. The breastplate represents his membership of the European aristocracy. Interestingly the statue is near to Wellem`s former residence.
While you are walking around, don't forget to check out the bronze sculpture called Stadterhebungsmonument (City founding monument). It was created by Bert Gerresheim from 1988 and features the Battle of Worringen. The sculpture is a commemoration for Düsseldorf when it received its city rights in the 13th century.

Finally, you arrived at your last visit in this historic part of the city. This 13th century church was named after St. Suitbert who was Anglo Saxon missionary. In the 700s he built a monastery in Kaiserswerth.
St Suitbertus was built from 1050 until 1237. As you look at the beautiful building, you discover a clock tower. When you walk inside you find a modest decoration with stained-glass windows and a large cross at the altar. The church is also home of the impressive reliquary of the saint.
