The Journey to the Most Beautiful City in Germany

A permanent 1,000 m2 exhibition of more than 3,000 artifacts displaying culture, technology, art, building techniques, and settlement of the people and the economic and social histories of the region. Spread throughout 26 rooms are antiquities and priceless artifacts from all aspects of the day-to-day lives of our ancestors. Part of this amazing collection also includes some world-renowned exhibits including a frozen Neanderthal. From the dawn of humanity, through the Stone Age, and into the Middle Ages, you'll see mystical glimpses of history thousands of years ago.

This majestic ancient castle was built in the 2nd half of the 12th century. It is considered the smallest castle in Saxony, however, the buildings that exist today are only the core of the previous much larger complex. Inside is a museum loaded with historical treasures and exhibits like the "Small Knights Hall" on the upper floor of the palace displaying armor and hunting motifs. The entire Castle and its romantic surroundings display traces of history from the centuries since the Middle Ages. Step back in time exploring this beautiful ancient estate.
