Spend a Day with Abraham Lincoln in Springfield, IL

For your first stop heading into Springfield, pop into the Lincoln Heritage Museum to learn the rich history of Lincoln's life and presence in the state, as well as his legacy today. You can take an immersive 75-minute self-guided tour that takes you through rooms as you listen to audio accompanying the objects, 19th-century room recreations, and presentations.
Note the museum is closed Sundays and Mondays. If you're visiting on one of these days, we suggest checking out the Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum instead in Springfield.

Swing by Obed & Isaac's Microbrewery for lunch. You'll enjoy a bright and fun atmosphere, complete with a beer garden and bocce ball courts. You'll also be within a short walk from one of the most visited destinations in Springfield, Lincoln's former home which sits right next door.

After lunch, walk over to the Lincoln Home National Historic Site. Lincoln lived in the exact home for seventeen years from 1844 to 1861, before becoming the 16th President of the United States. Within the house, you can see original furnishings and understand Lincoln's life as a rising politician and father in the context of his own home.
Since its founding, anyone can visit the house completely free of charge, which is fitting for Lincoln considering he believed in equality in social and economic mobility. We think he'd be proud it's still free today!

For your last stop in Springfield, stop off to visit the final resting place of President Abraham Lincoln, his wife, and three of their four children. The tomb pays homage to Lincoln, as well as the soldiers who fought under Lincoln during the Civil War. There is a bust of Lincoln in front of the monument, and legend says that rubbing his nose will bring you good luck!
