World Heritage Rammelsberg ore mines

A working mine from the 11th century until the 1980s, the Rammelsberg Ore Mine is now an authentically preserved UNESCO World Heritage Site. The mine is worth a visit because not only is it assumed to be the oldest mine in Europe, it was a major source of innovation. Venture underground to see where and how centuries of minors worked and lived. While guided tours are available, they are currently only offered in German. Sturdy shoes are recommended.
