Goslar, Mountain Villages And Castles Ruins

Before checking out of your hotel, take a walk around historic Goslar to see the medieval town square, town hall (Rathaus), nearby Schuhof, the 12th century Goslar Market Church, the and many half-timbered houses. In the town square (Marktplatz) don’t miss the fountain or the carillon bells and dancing mining figures when the clock strikes at 9:00, 12:00, 15:00, and 18:00.

A short drive from Goslar you’ll find the Gustav Adolf Stave Church. Made of wood instead of stone, this beautiful church built in 1908 is a copy of the medieval Norwegian Borgund Stave Church. Built from spruce trees from nearby mountains, this church is a popular wedding venue. After visiting the church, you can take a short walk around the nearby lake.

It’s time to head back into the Harz mountains on your way back to Magdeburg. First up is the mountain town of Braunlage. Park in the public car park next to the Wurmberg Gondola Lift and then walk across the street to the gondola.
Board the 6-seat cable car for a 15-minute ride to the top of Wurmberg and enjoy the stunning view. You can take the cable car back down the mountain, walk down, or for extra adventure, rent a monster scooter at the base of the cable car (you can take it on the cable car with you) and ride it back down the mountain!

A short drive from Braunlage is the delightful Waldcafe Forellenteich, where you can enjoy a relaxed lunch in nature. With cozy indoor and outdoor seating you’ll leave nourished and refreshed.

After a scenic drive through the Harz you’ll arrive in the romantic village of Stolberg. Named the most beautiful village in Germany, you’ll love the half-timbered houses and narrow cobblestone streets. Stretch your legs after your car ride with a walk around the village and a visit to the Ancient Coin Museum, which is housed in a 15th century half-timbered house. You can park in the Stolberg Altstadt car park.

On your way back to Magdeburg, make a short stop at Domburg Kakel. You’ll find a castle ruins dating back to the 12th century. You can also take one last hike before returning to Magdeburg by following one of the marked trails.
