Freiburg Im Breisgau, a Towering Waterfall and a Lake to Be Captain for a Day

Last day of the trip with lots of interesting things to see and remember forever. Are you ready?
You will visit a beautiful city whose imposing cathedral will take your breath away. Everything there looks like something out of a painting: its streets and corners, its ancient gates leading to the walled city, its little Venice, its cobbled streets... You won't know which way to look.
Then a 97-metre high waterfall will surprise you in the middle of a beautiful path of pure and dense green. You will want to spend hours gazing in ecstasy at this wonder of nature.
Later on, you will go sailing on the waters of a large lake, like a real skipper, aboard a small electric boat which, fortunately for everyone, does not require a licence! You will also be able to stroll around the lake, visit the beautiful village square and climb up to a viewpoint from where the views are breathtaking.
As if all this wasn't enough, I suggest you finish the day in a small village, dining in a beautiful medieval restaurant next to a tower that, if you ask me, is surely owned by a witch.

If there is one thing in this city that no one should miss, it is the magnificent cathedral. Imposing and spectacular. It began to be built in 1200 and it took more than 300 years to finish it. It began in Romanesque style and ended up having the gothic style that we can all appreciate today.
Be sure to visit it, inside you will be able to appreciate the colourful stained glass windows, which are the original ones from medieval times, in all their splendour.
It is open daily from 7:00 to 19:00 h.

This square has been the site of a very busy and varied market for centuries. The fishermen used to use this fountain to wash their fish before selling it on their stalls.
The market is beautiful and very lively. It is also on this square that one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Germany is held during Advent.

This beautiful building (which I got confused and thought it was the Town Hall...) is known as the Old Warehouse. It dates from the 16th century and today it is used as a conference and congress venue.
On the façade there are prominent figures from the House of Habsburg, such as the Emperor Maximilian and Philip the Beautiful, his son. There are also beautifully painted coats of arms.

The gates that gave access to the old walled city are also a must-see. This is the oldest of the two remaining city gates. It was built in the 12th century but has been restored many times and its original appearance has changed.
The day I saw it for the first time there were so many people walking in the area that I could hardly take a decent picture of it. I still bought a postcard later because it's so beautiful....
From here it is recommended to walk along the Gerberau street that will lead you to the next rampart gate, that' s where you will find "Little Venice", one of the most beautiful parts of the city.

It is impressive to see these waterfalls with their roaring waterfall from a height of 97 metres.
The whole area is incredibly beautiful, the path is very good, even in a rainy day we were able to walk it without any problem. I suggest an hour but the truth is that I would have stayed there all afternoon, just listening to the water and enjoying the spectacle.

"It's time to sail my captain!!!"
It's super fun to sail around the lake aboard the electric, eco-friendly boats that you can rent here. I recommend you rent it for an hour, that's what I did with my friends and we had a great time, in fact, we had the feeling that it was a short ride. But you can choose the time you want.
There is also the option of a pedal boat or a rowing boat, if you are more sporty. Here is their website for more information.
Open from May to September, every day from 10:00 to 18:00. Depending on the weather, of course.

It is the small restaurant of a hotel, we happened to pass by by chance. We had stopped to see the town and we loved it.
The food is super tasty and the atmosphere is very welcoming. We had a great time and we were about to stay overnight in the hotel so as not to drive at night, but finally we continued on our way so as not to be delayed.
I suggest you make reservations by phone at (+49)172 7607522 and also at (+49) 7741-1880. Because the lounge is very cosy, but it is small, so you are sure to get a seat. We were lucky to find a place without a reservation, but it was in the low season.
    Here is more information.
Well, this is the last stop of this wonderful journey.
As a last recommendation, I suggest you to walk around the streets of this small town at night, after dinner. You won't regret it!!
I hope you've enjoyed this trip. It's been a great fun for me to share these places, I enjoyed so much, with you.
Hope to meet you in another route!!
