Three Paradises in Just One Day

Day 2, the most paradisiacal day of all. Today you will be in 3 idyllic places. You will do some hiking around a beautiful lake with breathtaking views. Then, in a splendid spa located in the middle of the mountains, your body and mind will float light and you will disconnect from everything. Massages, healing thermal waters, an ionised salt room, saunas.... The choice is yours! You will renew your energy in an unimaginable way.
Afterwards you will visit the medieval village that seems to have stopped in time, a beautiful and perfectly preserved place with pristine beauty and countless charming corners. Add to all this, delicious meals in the best places I've ever been, where you'll enjoy yourself so much that you won't want the day to end.

Good morning! Have you seen what a beautiful place!!! Wear comfortable clothes as you will be doing some hiking around the lake.
There are several hiking trails in the area, I recommend the one around the lake which has beautiful views and a few surprises, such as the sculpture of a mermaid looking out over the lake.

This place is a paradise for body and mind.
We arrived here because I had been suffering from lower back pain for several days after so much driving and walking around with my backpack. Joking about it, we finally decided to look for a spa to recover a bit and we found this one.
We arrived at the reception, (we hadn't booked in advance, nor had we checked the costs) there we were informed of the prices and finally I put together a package for 4 hours that included the thermal baths, a complete massage and a visit to the world of salt, (which I had been told was very beneficial).
It was an extraordinary experience! Going to the spa made it possible for me to continue my trip without any discomfort. It did us all a lot of good. We had lunch there at the restaurant, which was also very positive because we had a relaxed lunch of delicious salads and natural juices that were very good for us.
I recommend you to make reservations in advance, we were lucky to get in without booking but it is better to be cautious.
Opening hours are: Every day from 9:00 to 22:00 hs. Sundays and public holidays until 20:00 hs.

As a welcome to the city you will be greeted by this beautiful tower that was part of the city's defence in ancient times. Its name refers to the river Kinzig that flows nearby and is a affluent of the Rhine. It is beautifully decorated and still has raised the gate that once barred the way to the enemy.

We came to this tower because we were struck by its appearance, but we didn't know that there was a museum inside: The Museum of Fools. With that name we entered without a second's hesitation!...hahaha!
This museum is dedicated to the peculiar carnival of Gengenbach, through its floors you will see how they dress for this festivity, the wooden masks or the handmade footwear they use.... You will also meet the jester or main character of the carnival who is called the "Schalk", the fool.
    • It was very lucky to have gone there, at the top of the tower you can go outside and enjoy beautiful sights of the city.
      Here is some more information.

It is located next to the oldest building in the city: the Benedictine abbey, although today it is a university building.

This square is so beautiful!! When we arrived there was a small market with local products. Later we found out that it was the farmers' market where farmers gather to sell their produce on Wednesdays and Saturdays. We wanted to buy everything!

The whole old town is beautiful, small, but it looks like a stage set to take pictures of every corner.
In the centre of the market square is also the town hall building, opposite the fountain. At Christmas time, the largest advent calendar is projected on this building, as it has 24 identical windows at the front.
I will travel there sometime at Christmas time, as I have seen that this city has one of the most beautiful Christmas market in the area.

Beautiful alley, its name means Angel's alley and is one of the most beautiful corners of this village, with houses decorated with flowers and painted in different colours. In some of them there are details to welcome visitors, such as seats, tables and even books!
If you continue to the end of this street you will come out into the Alley From Hell or Höllengasse. Another area with many beautiful facades and a very picturesque atmosphere.

In the middle of the Market Square there is a beautiful fountain with a knight carved in stone on a central column. The locals call this character "Schwed", who holds a rolled-up map of the city. Both the fountain and the knight date from the 16th century.
One of my friends wanted to throw a coin in the fountain... She is one of those who in every city with a fountain or in every place she can, throws a coin (I even left my bag open beside a tap to see if I could trick her, but it didn't work, she didn't throw any coin in there... What a pity!!... hahahah!) Finally she couldn't because the farmers market had brought quite a lot of people and there were many people gathered around the fountain.

This is another of the entrance gates to the ancient city, where you can clearly see the painted eagle indicating that this was once a free imperial city. It is a very beautiful gate and area.
You stand there, waiting for some fairytale character to appear, as if you were visiting Disneyland.
But there is a reason for all the beauty you see here. In 1905, a regulation was issued according to which the historic appearance of houses and streets had to be maintained. Then in 1955 the entire city centre was subjected to a Historic Preservation Act. This is why everything has been meticulously preserved.
