Medieval Germany and Its Legacy of Barley
You will start this medieval beer tour, crossing the border into Germany, at the most emblematic and famous tavern in Central Europe: the great Hofbräuhaus in Munich! A place that overflows with history, joy and party atmosphere! All at the same time. Before and after visiting the Hofbräuhaus, you will take a walk through the must-see places in Munich.
On the way to Nuremberg, where the red beer is an emblem, you will make a short stop in Ingolstadt. In this city, bordered by the Danube River, The Beer Purity Law was passed in 1516, which is still in force in Germany today and is the oldest existing law regulating a consumer product. It is also the birthplace of the Herrnbräu brewery, founded in 1527, which has been following the purity law ever since and whose recipe includes pure, deep spring water.
In Nuremberg, you will go straight to one of the city's most emblematic breweries, the Tucher Mautkeller. This brewery, which brews beer on the premises, will surprise you with its atmosphere and the wide variety of quality craft beers on offer. Not to mention the Franconian cuisine that will leave you speechless.

From a Cloudy Red to a Refreshing Blonde
This second day on the medieval beer route will make you feel like a real traveller from another time, you will see your car and be surprised that it is not a horse-drawn cart. Believe me!
First thing in the morning you'll visit Nuremberg's craft market, beautiful and picturesque like no other. Then you will visit the church that miraculously survived the bombings that destroyed Nuremberg during the Second World War.
You'll visit the underground tunnels, originating from the early Middle Ages and mainly used by the locals to store and mature the beer. You will have lunch at the Altstadthof Brewery, where the original Nuremberg red beer will delight you with its unique aroma and taste.
Then you will visit the Imperial Castle... not to be missed during your visit to Nuremberg.
From Nuremberg you will head for the great Pilsen! The birthplace of the lager that we all drink and enjoy in every bar. But first you will make a stop in Amberg to get to know this picturesque city and its old bridges.
In Pilsen you will visit the legendary Pilsen Urquell brewery, the original lager that became so popular and desired that it was imitated all over the world. Then you will stroll through the most beautiful corners of this city and enjoy a typical Czech dinner with a good Pilsen Urquell as the main drink.

The Original Budweiser, the Legend of a Frog and the Beautiful Český Krumlov
Day three and you'll feel like a bit of an expert on medieval beers by now. I'm sure!!
Today you will visit České Budějovice, the birthplace of the original Budweiser. You'll find it's a beautiful town full of charm, with an overwhelming legend and a quirky brewery. But before you get there, you will cross the oldest bridge in the Czech Republic, which is still standing, at Písek. Even if you are not obsessed with bridges (as I am) you will still love it!
In České Budějovice you will also visit Budweiser Budvar, and you'll understand why there are two brands with similar names on two different continents. You will also see the production process of this centuries-old Czech beer. Also walking around the city you will climb the iconic Black Tower and as you go up, I will tell you the strange story behind it.
Then the most beautiful town in South Bohemia (in my humble opinion) awaits you: Český Krumlov. There, in addition to falling in love with the town, I will take you to an excellent medieval tavern, where the owners honor the traditional delicacies and where you can drink the local beer, which also has a good age.

A Beautiful Castle, an Ancient Brewery in the Alps and the Sound of Music
Last day of the richest and most joyful route!
You will start by visiting something that was pending from yesterday... The great Castle of Český Krumlov. A jewel! The second-largest castle after Prague in the whole Czech Republic. You will also visit the tower and the castle gardens, crossing the famous Plášťový Pláš Bridge (Mantle Bridge).
Then you will depart towards the city of Linz, already in Austria again. You will visit its central square, which is the largest enclosed square in Europe. In a brewery in front of the Danube I will tell you which beer, with a medieval recipe, originally from the Alps, stole my heart...
From there you will head to the Alps to visit the old Hofbräu Kaltenhausen, where you will take a very interesting tour to learn all the mysteries of the different beers, their grains and hundreds of facts while touring the facilities that have been producing a unique beer since 1475, thanks to the raw materials and the natural water source of the high mountains. After the tour, I will show you the place where the mythical scene of Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music was filmed, and you will end up dancing and singing there with the dreamy scenery that you will have all around.
