- Taste some of the regions finest wines.
- Pick your own oysters straight from the sea.
- Walk the miniature 'great wall'.
- See how sea salt is made.
Out on a limb and far away from the busy resorts along the Dalmatian coast, the Peljesac Peninsula reminds me a bit of what Istria (in the North) used to be like before it was ‘re-discovered’ by tourists. This is a real ‘foodies’ paradise, home to the finest oysters in the country and some of the best wines. On this trip you’ll be going out with a local fisher to see how oysters and mussels are cultivated (and to try them fresh from the sea) as well as visiting two different wineries. There’s also lunch at a fabulous tuna restaurant and dinner at a traditional ‘konobo’.
The peninsula is also a famous producer of salt (it’s what the economy was once based on) and you’ll be able to see the salt production process at Ston.
To balance out these wonderful gastronomic experiences, there’s a fantastic walk along a 14th Century wall (the second longest in the world) from Ston to Mali Ston, and an old ‘ghost’ village to explore. For the ‘beach bums’, there’s a visit to 2 gorgeous bays included as well as a chance to try windsurfing.
Note that the boat trip and winery on day 1 needs to be booked in advance as well as a couple of the recommended restaurants. Details on how to book are provided in the itinerary.

Wine, Walls & Water
The first stop of the day is at the gorgeous medieval town of Ston from where you will walk along the ancient wall to its little sister, Mali Ston. From here you’ll take a boat trip out to the mussel and oyster beds, followed by a seafood lunch. In the afternoon, there’s time to chill out on a pretty, sheltered beach before getting stuck into some wine tasting. You’ll overnight in Orebic, the ‘capital’ of the peninsula where you’ll try ‘peka’, a famous Dalmatian style of cooking, for dinner.

Windsurfing, Wineries and Salt Pans
This morning starts with a visit to an old ‘ghost’ village with a long history, followed by another gorgeous beach and a chance to do some windsurfing. Then there’s a fantastic tuna lunch at a specialist restaurant before moving on to a second winery for some more tastings. After that, it’s back to lovely Ston, this time to visit the salt pans, before a final oyster supper (paired with local wines) on the peninsula, after which you’ll head back to Dubrovnik.
