Musk Ox Spotting in the Dovrefjell National Park and a Visit to an Old Viking Graveyard

You'll grab some breakfast to go from the hotel before heading out early for the big day ahead. On your way out of Lom, you can't miss a quick stop at Neset bru with its blinding emerald waters. The very cold waters are from the Europe's biggest glacier, Jostedalsbreen, which is also responsible for the striking colour. Cars aren't allowed on the bridge so you can park right next to it and go for a walk over the water.

Though the vikings roamed these lands thousands of years ago, they pale in comparison to the sturdy musk ox, one of earth's oldest land mammals. You'll walk 1.5 km from the parking lot before you arrive at the Snøhetta viewpoint, which was named "World Building of the Year" in 2011 and is also part of the Norwegian Wild Reindeer Centre. From here you'll have some time to spot for the wildlife that roams the Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park. Keep your eyes peeled for these old furry creatures.

After hopefully getting lucky with the wildlife, you'll head to Kongsvoll, a B&B and restaurant which prides itself on serving local homemade fare such as trout roulade and chocolate cake with homemade vanilla ice cream.

Whilst driving through the Oppdal valley, you'll be surrounded by the Dovrefjell and Trollheimen mountains from all corners. You may also see a number of people on the road who are taking part in the famous St. Olav's way pilgrim path. Pull up to Gravfeltet Vang, in the centre of Oppdal, where you'll find one of Northern Europe's biggest burial grounds from the Iron Age with over 900 graves, a large amount coming from the Viking age. Valuable objects like swords and treasures from England, Ireland, and Southern Europe were also found and buried in the graveyard so that they could be taken into the afterlife.

A quick pitstop into this little room on the way to Trondheim will have you getting your cultural hat on. Founded and run by one lady, the tiny museum has showcased exhibitions from collage artists from across the world and is open for 24 hours everyday.

Start your trip to Trondheim with a visit to one of its most popular landmarks, the Nidaros Cathedral. The cathedral was constructed on top of Norway's patron saint, St. Olaf's, grave and celebrates a medieval architectural style. In the summer months, the tower opens up to visitors and after 172 steps up you'll have a fantastic view of central Trondheim.
